রোববার (২৮ মে) তুরস্কে হবে রান-অফ প্রেসিডেন্ট নির্বাচন। আর এ নির্বাচনের মাধ্যমেই নির্ধারিত হবে— আরও পাঁচ বছর তুরস্কের প্রেসিডেন্ট হিসেবে রিসেপ তাইয়েপ এরদোয়ান থাকতে পারবেন কি না।

রিসেপ তাইয়্যেপ এরদোগান তার ২০ বছর ক্ষমতার মেয়াদ আরও ৫ বছর বাড়ানোর জন্য তুরস্কের রাষ্ট্রপতির দৌড়ের শেষ ঘণ্টাগুলো ক্রমশ উত্তেজনাকর হয়ে উঠছে।

এর আগে প্রথম দফার নির্বাচন অনুষ্ঠিত হয় গত ১৪ মে। এতে মোট ভোটের ৪৯ দশমিক ৫২ শতাংশ ভোট পান এরদোগান।

অপরদিকে তার নিকটতম প্রতিদ্বন্দ্বী কেমাল কিলিচদারোগ্লু পান ৪৪ দশমিক ৮৮ শতাংশ ভোট। যেহেতু তাদের কেউই এককভাবে ৫০ শতাংশ ভোট পাননি ফলে এ নির্বাচন রান-অফে গড়ায়।

প্রথম রাউন্ডের ভোটে বিরোধী প্রার্থী কেমাল কিলিচদারোগলো ২ দশমিক ৫ মিলিয়ন ভোটে পিছিয়ে ছিলেন।

সম্প্রতি এক গণনায় দেখা যায়, তুরস্কের জনসংখ্যা ৮৫ মিলিয়ন। এর মধ্যে কামাল কিলিচদারোগলো’র ২ দশমিক ৮ মিলিয়ন সমর্থক বা ৮ মিলিয়ন ভোটার প্রথম রাউন্ডে উপস্থিত হননি।

আন্তর্জাতিক পর্যবেক্ষকরা বলছে, ভোটারদের একটি সত্যিকারের পছন্দ থাকতে পারে থাকলেও তুরস্ক ‘গণতান্ত্রিক নির্বাচন অনুষ্ঠানের মৌলিক নীতিগুলো পূরণ করেনি’।

দুই সপ্তাহ আগে বালা শহরে ৬০ শতাংশেরও বেশি ভোটার রাষ্ট্রপতি এরদোগানকে সমর্থন করেছিলেন এবং তুরস্কের প্রথমবারের মতো পাঁচ মিলিয়ন ভোটার রাস্তায় নেমে এসেছিল। এরকম নজির খুবই কম।
