জাতীয় সংসদের ঢাকা-১৭ আসনের উপনির্বাচনে ব্যালটে ভোট গ্রহণ শুরু হয়েছে। বর্তমান নির্বাচন কমিশন প্রথমবারের মতো এই আসনে ইভিএম ব্যবহার না করে ব্যালটের মাধ্যমে ভোট নিচ্ছে।
সোমবার সকাল ৮টা থেকে বিকাল ৪টা পর্যন্ত বিরতিহীনভাবে ব্যালটের মাধ্যমে পাঁচ মাসের জন্য এমপি নির্বাচিত করতে আজ ভোট দেবেন গুলশান-বনানীর বাসিন্দারা। তবে এই নির্বাচন কেন্দ্র করে নেই তেমন কোনো উত্তাপ। ভোটের আমেজও খুব একটা নেই।
ইতোমধ্যে প্রতিটি ভোটকেন্দ্রে বসানো হয়েছে সিসি ক্যামেরা। নির্বাচনের সুষ্ঠু পরিবেশ বজায় রাখতে আইনশৃঙ্খলা বাহিনী মোতায়েন করা হয়েছে।
ঢাকা-১৭ আসনের উপনির্বাচনে আটজন প্রতিদ্বন্দ্বী। এর মধ্যে অন্যতম তিন প্রার্থীকে এগিয়ে রাখছেন স্থানীয় ভোটাররা। আওয়ামী লীগের প্রার্থী অধ্যাপক মোহম্মদ এ আরাফাত, স্বতন্ত্র প্রার্থী মো. আশরাফুল আলম (হিরো আলম) এবং জাতীয় পার্টির প্রার্থী সিকদার আনিসুর রহমান। তাদের তিনজনের মধ্যে মূল প্রতিযোগিতা হবে বলে ধারণা করছেন ভোটাররা।
উপনির্বাচনে অংশ নেওয়া অপর প্রতিদ্বন্দ্বীরা হলেন— জাকের পার্টির কাজী মো. রাশিদুল হাসান, তৃণমূল বিএনপির শেখ হাবিবুর রহমান, স্বতন্ত্র প্রার্থী মো. তারিকুল ইসলাম, বাংলাদেশ কংগ্রেসের মো. রেজাউল ইসলাম স্বপন ও বাংলাদেশ সাংস্কৃতিক মুক্তি জোটের মো. আকবর হোসেন।
এই আসনের মোট ভোটার তিন লাখ ২৫ হাজার ২০৫ জন। এর মধ্যে নারী ভোটার এক লাখ ৫৩ হাজার ৫৮০। ১২৪টি ভোটকেন্দ্রের ৬০৫টি ভোটকক্ষে ভোটগ্রহণ করা হবে।
