ভারতের পশ্চিমবঙ্গে পঞ্চায়েত নির্বাচনে দিনভর ব্যাপক সহিংসতা হয়েছে। দফায় দফায় সংঘর্ষে নিহতের সংখ্যা বেড়ে দাঁড়িয়েছে ১৪। এছাড়া দিনভর রাজ্যের বিভিন্ন স্থানে সংঘর্ষ, ব্যালট বাক্স লুট ও বোমা হামলা ঘটেছে।
শনিবার (৮ জুলাই) রাজ্যের ২২টি জেলায় তিন স্তরে ৬৩ হাজার ২২৯টি গ্রাম পঞ্চায়েত আসন, ৯ হাজার ৭৩০টি পঞ্চায়েত সমিতির আসন এবং ৯২৮টি জেলা পরিষদ আসন নির্বাচনে ভোট হয়। এতে মোট ভোটার সংখ্যা ৫ কোটি ৬৭ লাখ। সকাল ৭টায় ভোটগ্রহণ শুরুর পর থেকেই শুরু হয় ব্যাপক সংঘর্ষ। দিনভর এ সংঘর্ষে ১৪ জন নিহত হয়েছেন।
রাজ্যের পূর্ব-বর্ধমান, মুর্শিদাবাদ, মালদা ছাড়াও কোচবিহার জেলার বেশ কিছু ভোটকেন্দ্রে শাসক এবং বিরোধী রাজনৈতিক দলের কর্মী-সমর্থকের মধ্যে রক্তক্ষয়ী সংর্ঘষে প্রাণ হারিয়েছেন বেশ কয়েক জন। রাজ্যজুড়ে কেন্দ্রীয় বাহিনী মোতায়েনের পরও সংঘাতের ঘটনায় শুরু হয়েছে তুমুল বিতর্ক। প্রাণহানির জন্য একে অপরকে দোষারোপ করছে রাজনৈতিক দলগুলো।
হতাহতের ঘটনায় তৃণমূল ও বিজেপি একে অপরকে পাল্টাপাল্টি দোষারোপ করেছে। এ বিষয়ে রাজ্যের মুখ্যমন্ত্রী মমতা ব্যানার্জীর দল দাবি করেছেন নিহতদের অধিকাংশই তৃণমূল কর্মী।
এবারের নির্বাচনে সুশৃঙ্খলভাবে ভোটগ্রহণের জন্য কেন্দ্রীয় বাহিনী নামানো হয়েছে। এরপরও সহিংসতা ঠেকানো যায়নি। এ বিষয়ে রাজ্য নির্বাচন কমিশনার রাজীব সিন্হা বলেন, এ পঞ্চায়েত নির্বাচনকে শান্তিপূর্ণ বলা সম্ভব নয়।
